Sunday in Underland

This painting was a study in black and white, and it took me 2 years to complete it. When I first worked on it, all the elements seemed to fall into place for me and I really liked the direction it was going. Unfortunately, a couple of negative critiques confounded me into thinking I had gone down a wrong path. Thank goodness I waited all that time to come back to it, because when I did, my conviction around my creative voice was stronger and I knew just what to do to complete it… my way.
With the pop of pink, vintage collage elements, and chaotic composition, it felt very Alice in Wonderland to me. In Tim Burton’s movie version he called it Underland, and so I used that as inspiration for the title, “Sunday in Underland”.
