Printer’s Proof
12”x12” • mixed media on wood

Using my favorite icon Tillie as the main feature together with the roller coaster imagery and caution symbol lent an exciting carnivalesque feel to this painting that was actually inspired by the CMYK process used in printing. As a graphic designer and art director, I spent many years going on press checks, attempting to visually balance the C-cyan, M-magenta, Y-yellow and K-black colors to produce the perfect printed piece. As such with this painting, I spent my sessions playing with blocks of color, different glazes, negative effects, and creating little pockets of transparency and contrast here and there. Color coordinated collage elements tied it all back to printing for the complete “printer’s proof” experience.
